Over a decade into the new century climate change is a pressing concern, yet fueled by demand in BRIC economies, plastic waste is forecasted to increase by 725% between 2010 and 2030. Could a carbon financing scheme turn the problem of plastic waste into an opportunity for the building industry? Our study, co-developed with Thornton Tomasetti, explores waste-to-building strategies that align with long term goals of Low Carbon Development. Specifically, we evaluate the environmental benefits of utilizing plastic composites in concrete structures.
