HELSINKI LIBRARY EXHIBITION
May 02 2012
On 02, May 2012 | In EXHIBITIONS | By Ruben Rodela
In Helsinki, the cityscape in all its variety was the incentive to design a building that concentrates on the vertical. The 14.000 m2 library is organized by six intersecting axes that afford spectacular vistas while at the same time creating programmatic flexibility within 12m column free floor plates. Developed in collaboration with ARUP, we reinterpret the oculus of the Pantheon when designing a high performance facade for the challenging Finnish climate. Concave building geometry amplifies daylight while rooflines are optimized for snow recycling. The proposal is on exhibition thru May 16th after which a distinguished international jury will deliberate. Stage two shortlisted proposals will be announced in September 2012.
Exhibition: Jätkäsaari Bunker, Helsinki, FI
Schedule: May 10–16, 2012
